I sometimes have a need for two tripods--makes using two bodies possible so I don't have to change lenses and then set up all over again. I have one decent set-up with a bogen ball head, but my second set-up is a really old studio tripod with a pan/tilt head that I have cobbled up and added a quick release plate. The legs don't lock as well as they should, but I hate to invest much to refurbish a tripod I only have $15 invested in.

I budgeted $150.00 and began looking on eekbay--not much luck. I wanted a pan/tilt head for this set-up and a decent Bogen Head and tripod added up to close to $200.00.

Anyway, last Monday I stopped at a local Camera store and found a nice used (nearly new) Bogen 3030 pan/tilt head for less than $50.00. Once I found the head and knew what I had left for "legs" I read a ton of reviews of different tripods and finally ordered a set of Slik 700DX legs from B&H--total with shipping was about $96.00. So, I made my budget and ended up with a decent new set-up. I don't need a light weight set-up as I do not hike much, so I'm pretty pleased with my purchases. The tripod is scheduled for delivery on Friday--maybe I can try it out this weekend if the weather is decent. So, you can get a decent set-up for $150.00, but it takes some looking and some luck.
