I was looking for a new tripod for my K10D with battery grip and 55-300 lens. It's a bit of a heavy unit and although I had an old Leitz Tiltall tripod from 25 years ago, I thought the Leitz was too heavy for me to carry around. Well when I went to a few good photo shops was I surprised the weight difference wasn't too much comparing the Leitz with new, top models.
But I wanted a quick release head that I could use the Tiltall head screw to attach. I picked up the Manfrotto 234C Monopod Head-quick release and it works quite good on my equipment, both camera and Tiltall Tripod.
I was also quite happy to continue to use my old Leitz with my new equipment. I had originally bought it many years ago to use with medium format cameras like my Mamiya TLR.
I bought it, as I had broken my previous light weight tripod when using a rented Pentax 6 X 7. The Leitz easily handled the Pentax 6 X 7.
