Default video tripod, controls

I am looking for a tripod for a Sony DCR-TRV38. My current work includes lots of sporting events with the need to pan easily and the desireability of frequent zooming to isolate players/plays, etc. Remote control seems a valuable feature.

Sony markets inexpensive integrated/dedicated remote control tripods that seem to fit this niche (http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTE...ries_DITripods). Does anyone have experience with or opinions about any of these, or about the usefulness of remote control video tripods in general?

Alternatively, are separate video tripod heads available with such reomte control function? The remote packaged with the video camera has the functions I think I would need, but this does not seem nearly as convenient or practical as having the functions integrated into the head handle itself.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I doubt Sony makes tripods! Like most Sony products I'm sure they are overpriced along with being overated.

Look for 'tripod' manufactures Bogen, S-V, Silk etc.
Look and feel for the smooth action of a fluid pan/tilt head since it is for video. This is a MUST! A 3-way head is NOT needed nor wanted here!
Look for a bubble level on the tripod NOT on the head as some 'cheap' units have!
Look for a good spreader.
Look for good leg locks.

DON'T look for cheap Chinese made consumer toys as you would find at Wal Mart etc. I doubt you would find one for less than $150 that would be decent and that is at the bottom of the barrel!
