I'm shopping for a tripod for my new D80 and I think I've figured out what I want, but I'm coming here to ask for opinions. I'm thinking of getting the Bogen 3001 Pro legs with a 486RC2 Ball Head. I don't know if anyone knows anythingabout this set up, but I'll be using a D80 with a 18-200 VR lens. I think it should support the weight well, however I'd like to hear what anyone else has to say.

That setup should work fine, although I would prefer a ball head with a separate pan control, the 486RC2 is a reasonable low cost head, and the 3001 legs are more than sufficient.

You won't regret getting the 488RC2 with separate panning control. The 486RC2 has one knob that does both, panning and ballhead tightening, and that is not good.
