I tried it out in a local shop and really like it Pan capability at the bottom cartridge.

I know I will be limited in my future acquisition of heavier body or lens

Daniel:

How do you like your 680B monopod? I'm thinking to get the 682B, but I don't know how the retractable legs works, are they detached and has the the threads to attach to main unit or they stay with the unit all the time?

I like 680b a lot now. Originally I did not buy the idea that it needs to bear heavy weight. But it turns out that it does while shooting.
I saw 682B in action. Being so light wt., it is good , very good for light weight camcorder. But not for slr plus heavy lens

I purchased the Gittos MH 5580. I am tall so the 70 inches was importaant to me. My Gear is a 20D with a 70-200 2.8 and a 2x extender and a 580EX flash. I wanted something sturdy and it comes with a tilt head and quick release. I am very pleased with it's ease of use and the build quality is excellant.I felt like it was a bargainfor $84.It will definitely support anything I may have in the future.

Good luck with your shopping!
