Went to see some tripods at circuit city.. quick question.. why do they have one extra metal protrusion besides the one that threads to camera? Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

that is for video cameras so they don't twist/spin while mounted. especially the older larger ones.

So, I am assuming it would work for the digital cameras as well. I am just worried it my camera would get scratched or something. Thanks.

the pin should be removeable or should be springloaded to go down when a non pin camera is mounted there. if your worried about scratches thats what grey tape was invented for.
