Thanks Bob, I knew the legs opened out to flat. Your post reminded me to check the instructions that came with the tripod (duh) to learn how to turn post into horizontal boom.

New question; how do you attach the slide rail to the boom?

I use a Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head on the tripod. I have an RC2 QR plate on the bottom of the macro rail and just click it on to the ball head.

also if u dont mind shooting your pictures upside down you can get even lower by spinning the head round upside down

I have the Manfrotto055xprob with the Manfrotto 327RC2 head...I used to use the 486 RC2, but the 327 is easier/quicker to use for me. I did reverse the 327 so I could adjust it with my left hand while my right hand is on the camera though.
