Greetings,
This is my first post. I'm looking for a lightweight and compact tripod to use with my new Cannon powershot A610. This is my first camera. I do alot of mountain biking so I need something light and small and be able to take some abuse from falls.

Thanks,
Jim

You might want to think about a clamp (with a head) that clamps onto your bicycle, i.e., use your bike as the legs of the "tripod". Something like the one at http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation

I just purchased a Velbon Maxi 347GB which might be what you are looking for. You can find some really good prices on Ebay, and a google search will provide many sites to see the specs.

Have you considered a monopod? I picked one up and use it when I'm hiking. Depending on what you want to do, a monopod can provide the support and stabilization you want with less set up, and is even more compact than a tripod.

Check thread, http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...mp;forum_id=73but no light weight tripod is going to be indestructable.
