Hello RanchDressing ... I'm 5 feet 11 inch(A decent height). Not sure about your height but I find it little awkward to bend a little but not much of a trouble. Also it depends on what u r shooting and how frequently u need to stand tall. For me it's birds and to get better effect I need to shoot at birds eye level and most of the time(90%) I need to use the tripod at very low height(in fact other 2 leg columns folded). I find tripod even sturdier when they are low height and wide spread(Bogen 3021 has four angle locks).
After using tripod for first time I realised that centre column sometime comes handy, when you need to raise/lower your camera by few inches compared to adjusting tripod legs. I also find that my tripod can be laid flat on the ground for really low shot as well as this can be handy for macro shots(which I don't do it right now) because of flexible centre column.
just let me knwo if some factors are not tak
en into care here, also when I mount my ballhead(BH-1) and camera(D50) I get additional 6"
