Default New to the forum looking for pointers and direction.

New to the forum here. Nice site....

Looking to upgrade and downsize my current Canon G9 to a new digican.

Top 2 contenders on order are the Sony HX5V and the Panny ZS7. Torn between the two so I bought both. Looking for info on them, comparisons and user reviews. Don't want to open the boxes until I know that either will have a chance at being a keeper.

Also looking for opinions or direction for online sharing sites. Interested in free with unlimited storageat full Rez.

That may be asking too much.

Anywho? Glad to be here...any pointers on where to start my continued research is appreciated.

Thanks

If you like the manual control of the g9, the zs7 would be a good option. Both produce very nice photo, you really can not go wrong with either. I you want more input into your shot. The ZS7's manual control is a plus.

From the samples on steve's of the HX5V and ZS7, it comes down to personal preference. Which ones' processing you prefer. And since you do not want to open the box, you really can not see which ones have better ergos to fits you best. Here are some links from steve's with sample photos.

But I really thing you can not go wrong with either. I like the ZS7 for the manual control options, that is just my preference if I had one camera. But both are sharp lenses. Good image quality, both have GPS.

If video is a concern the zs7 seems to have an edge
