Default Tele converter lenses

I have a Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 DG Macro lense on a canon 400D. I want to fit a tele converter lense is this a good idea?. Will the Sigma 2x EX DG or 1.4x be suitable
I am quite new to digital photography

Welcome to Steve's.

It is a very common thing to want to do, however you will lose a lot of quality, you won't have auto focus apart from at the 70mm setting with a 1.4x TC, apart from that it is manual focus only so really there is very little point.

TC's only work well on good quality lenses. If you had the Sigma 100-300mm f4 for example then yes it is worth adding one if you need the extra range, apart from that don't waste your money.
