Default Frenchy New Be

Hello everyone,

I'm French, living in la Réunion island, in the Indian Ocean.
My english is poor, but my photo skill is deeper...
I'm here to learn with your advices!

I'm using a Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ7 for 3 years, but tomorow I should receive my new camera : a Canon Powershot SX40 HS.

Hope to make good things with.

My first question is, what is the best... 4/3 or 16/9 for my pictures?
I was using a 4/3 screen, so it was nice, but now, most of screen are 16/9... Don't know what to do...

Enjoy!

Hey SybalduK:

Welcome to Steve's.

As for the best aspect ratio (ratio of width to height), that probably depends on what you plan on using the images for (viewing on newer wide format displays, printing using more traditional sizes, etc.)

Personally, I'd be inclined to stick with 4:3, since that option gives you the highest resolution images at 4000 x 3000 pixels. Then, just crop as needed if I wanted a different aspect ratio. If you use 16:9, you get 4000 x 2248 instead.

But, both sizes have their pros and cons (for example, if you're looking for image sizes to fill up the screen on newer wide format displays without worrying about the cropping as much later, then capturing them in 16:9 format may have it's advantages).

Thank you for your explanation.
I think I'll stay using 4/3 because you have the full-frame. 16/9 is a false one, because cropped as you said.

Thank-you!

I hope to contribute well.
