I'm looking for an ultra-compact camera with many aperature settings. any ideas?

This is an interesting question. I see no one's answered.

Most of the specs I see online don't even list the maximum aperture. They list only the specs of the lens, which is the minimum aperture that can be used with both wide and tele (usually something like 2.8-4.1).

As for the aperture range, for the most part 2.8-8.0 seems to be what I see in compacts. But I have no idea if there are any that do better than that.

I didn't try to answer because I don't know what you are looking for. My Casio 750Z will go to at least f13 in auto or shutter priority. But there are only two aperture choices in manual or aperture priority. And I believe everything over around f8 is from an internal neutral density filter and not a real aperture as it would relate to depth of field.

There aren't many sub compacts with aperture choices. The Casio Z750/Z850 are the smallest cameras I know of that give you any choice at all.

Do you mean manually selectable aperture settings, or ones that the camera chooses for you?

The Fuji F30 has an aperture priority mode that allows you to manually select the aperture. There are 10 settings at wide angle (f/2.8 to f/8, inclusive) and 5 settings at telephoto (f/5 to f/8, inclusive). In terms of size, it's compact rather than ultra-compact.

The Nikon Coolpix P3 and P4 have aperture priority modes as well. I'm not sure, but I think that they will allow you to select from a range, rather than just minimum and maximum apertures.

Otherwise, I think that there are many compact and ultra-compact cameras will have a range of apertures, but most will not allow you to choosethe apertureyourself.
