Amateur photographer here...
having a hard time deciding which one of these to buy. I've been out of photography for a while. I have an older Minolta (XTsi) 35mm SLR, which I used to love. However its time to go digital... 1) Spot metering does or doesn't work with the XTi? Because if it doesn't have spot metering, then I can eliminate this choice. This is one thing I actually did figure out how to use effectively on my Minolta. 2) 8MP on 30D vs 10MP D80? Does this make a difference? I find I tend to "overscan" my shots sometimes so I can cropdown what I really want. I seldom print things "as shot" and like to edit before printing. I wonder if I'm answering my own question here. Finally I have a Celestron (130SLT) telescope. Can any of these models work with it, is that even possible? Is any of them a better choice than the other? One final note if this should help me decide. I've always enjoyed timed exposures at night, and with the telescope I suspect I will be spending even more time with that. Is any of these models better equipped than the other for this? Would love any feedback you have. TYIA! |

I was going to ask a similair question to the original one asked (xti vs 30d) so I will ask it now....
With the sensors being the same size (aps c) should one expect higher noise from the 10mp (xti) as your trying to "squeeze" more out of it. I currently have the Sony F 828, and am looking to go up.... and thought the xti was the right choice, but would love to learn more before making the jump!! |

Canshooter asked, '' I've always enjoyed timed exposures at night, and with the telescope I suspect I will be spending even more time with that. Is any of these models better equipped than the other for this?''
There is a Canon 20DA thatwas introduced about this time last year. Its main purpose is astrophotography. (In order to shoot normal pictures Canon asks the user to screw a special filter on the front of the lens.) |
