I currenlt have a sony f717, and from advice here on this site I am unable to shoot night baseball games properly. The lighting conditions are very poor and I need a fast shutter to captre motion.

I have been back and fourth on these cameras.

Nikon d50, Canon rebel xt/350d, Olympus e500 evolt

Suggestions on high iso exposures on these cameras and performance, as well as lens suggestions will be most welcome.

Olympus E-500 = Worst in High ISO PERIOD !

Canon Rebel XT = 2nd in High ISO

Nikon D50 = Superb in High ISO !!!

You might want to consider that the maximum ISO setting on the Nikon D-50 and the Canon XT is 1600 ISO. The max ISO setting for the KM 5D is 3200 ISO.

i agree.. the km has a useable 3200 which the others do not have. you will also need to invest in a fast telephoto lens as well, which will set you back.. so just keep that in mind when you make out your budget.. a cheap telephoto lens will not focus at night well nor will it give you the light gathering capabilities you need.

you will need at least a 70-200 2.8 i am guessing.. and they will run you in the 800 - 1000 dollar range at their cheapest.

The Konica Minolta5D is 3200 ISO and has built in image stabilization, which will let you lower the shutter a few (2-3) stops, which will be useful.

remember, image stabilization does nothing to freeze action though.....

How close can you get to the action?

Night baseball with poor lighting sounds almost impossible even with top-end gear.

A KM5D with a 70-200 f2.8 might work.

You should probably also count on needing some f1.8-f20 primes to get that extra stop too.

That kit is going to give MUCH better results than a P&S, but you still might not be able to get what you want.

As it is already said Olympus E-500is Worst in High ISO speeds due to its smaller sized CCD than XT and Nikon D50 also Olympus tried to increase the resolution up to 8.MP on this camera so the Noise levels arevery high when compared to its competitors.

Nikon D50is the best DSLR at High ISO speeds than any other cameraavailable in the market right now. D50 wins even when it is compared to its big brother D70.

actually the d50 trails behind the km5d at 1600 and the iso 3200 of the km5d is still comparable to the d50 at 1600... both trail the 20d and other cameras.. so to say the d50 is the best out of all cameras is just wrong... it is GOOD, yes, not what i am saying.. just not THE best..

Why not consider Pentax *ist DS : Small, large lcd screen great performance and high iso quality pictures, so why the competition is always betwin Nikon vs Canon all the time, pentax made a great consumer SLR, consider it because it is a great one and of course the price is great too. PENTAX my choice ! - Do you agree guys ??
