I need some help. My daughter just lost my 3 month old SD550 which I was just learning to use! I am now looking to replace it with either the SD600, SD630 or SD700. From what I read, it looks like the 600 & 630 are the same except for the larger screen and no viewfinder on the 630. Is it worth the extra $150 to go up to the SD700 for the extra zoom and stabilization?

Yes! I started a Canon SD700IS thread above and said: Waiting patiently for Steve to review the Canon SD700 IS. I researched 'pocketable' cameras extensively to replace my 4-year old Casio Exlim EX-Z3 (3MP). I like this camera but couldn't resist the updated features in the newer cameras. The Canon was $100 more than my runner up (Olympus 710) but all the reviews told me to spring for the extra money. I did and I don't regret it. I love the Image Stabilization and the near high quality movies. I can make DVD from these clips! Who needs a DV camera? The pictures I take are great and I love the design although its a bit heavier than most. Most of all I love the 4X optical zoom. On the down side there is no battery meter-only a low battry waring which I haven't experienced yet and as far as I can figure out, there is no manual focus.

Hello,

I purchased the SD700 4 days ago. My general impression of the camera is it's great, the IS definitely works. Low-light shots have been relatively good, though in some situations the pictures haven't come out that great. Also, the images are a bit on the soft side when compared to the SD550 with evidence of soft and slightly blurry results on corners. Just curious, did you compare it to the SD630 before purchasing the SD700? For some reason, per reviews on amazon.com, the users all seem to think it produces very sharp pictures, some claiming it is better than the SD700.

I did look at the 630 but didn't want to lose the viewfinder. Is the 600 the same as the 630 only there is a viewfinder?
