Hey guys, great site. Anyway, I'll be graduating from college soon so I figured I should have a camera to capture the remaining months (sceneries, people, etc) . I've owned 2 digicams in the past, both of which didnt have flash strobes. Despite that, I was able to capture great pictures from them. The down side is that, obviously, using them indoors yielded poor pics.
Over all, which of these would be the best buy? Excelline 5MP CCD camera ($182) - http://www.bidshot.com/index.php?pag...1046&view= Digilife s670 ($155) - http://www.bidshot.com/index.php?pag...2938&view= Aiptek DV6800 ($182) - http://www.ecbuyph.com/aiptek-dv6800.htm Thank you very much guys. :-) |

I've never heard of any of these cams.
Why not stick with Canon, Sony, Nikon, Minolta, Pentax, Fuji or Olympus? Terry |

Budget constraints. :-) Seriously, if I had the money for the popularly branded cameras that would provide similar features as these, I would buy one. :-)

I don't know anything about the brands you mentioned (but they're probably crap), and I don't know where you live, but do yourself a favor and stick with name brand cameras...you know, something that if you mentioned the name, most people would say, "Oh yeah, I've heard of that". Like...Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Olympus, Sony...know what I mean? They all have entry level cameras for $200 or less. In other words, get a real camera.
Here are a few examples: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_reviews/c5500.html http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_...s/lz1_pg5.html http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_reviews/a520.html http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_...nikon4600.html http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_...fuji_a345.html Good luck. the Hun |

So you're thinking of getting a 2 MP camera that interpolates up to 6MP? Save your money and just get a good 2MP camera. For example, you can buy a Fuji 2800 or a Panasonic FZ1 (or other old 2MP cameras) and they'll take much better pictures than those cameras you mention.
Budgetary concerns should not stop you from getting a brand-name camera: http://www.airshowfan.com/guide-to-d...igital-cameras The Sony S40 and the Canon A510 go for $150, and many excellent cameras (like the Canon A520, Fuji E510, Panasonic LZ2, and Olympus C740) can be had for under $200. |

Thanks guys for the links. I checked them but since I live in the Philippines, the shipping would pretty much eat up the total amount I would have to spend. If we are to ignore the brand, feature-wise, which is best among the three?

Given the information on the websites, here is my take:
Exceline CCD 5MP Digicam optic - Not sure of the actual resolution of the sensor because no where I could see it specifies it. One thing it did say is it is limited to 512MB SD memory cards. Sich a limit sounds like older software internally. This one looks like it is hiped up and I would be leary of this one. New Digilife S670 - Only has a 2 MP sensor. No way I would push 6 MP from that small a sensor. Sounds like it is 2004 technology if I am reading right. Has a pretty small, low resolution LCD and appears also to limited 512 MB SD cards. Aiptek DV6800 - has a 3 MB sensor (better), takes up to 2 GB SD card, and a large LCD that swivels. Not knowing much else about them and only this to go by it sounds like the Aiptek DV6800 is the better buy. But there really is no information to tell you how well they perform, picture quality, etc. |

I guess I find it hard to believe that you can't buy a Japanese camera in the Philipines. I'm sorry, but I just can't recommend any of the cameras you're considering (somewhere, buried deeply beneath my barbarian exterior lies a truly sensitive, caring, honest individual...for a Hun).
What are your plans after graduation, Demi? Move to the States...get a good job...buy a top of the line DSLR...maybe continue your education? Good luck. the Hun |

demiguin,
I totally agree with what others have said. Save your money and buy a brand name camera. Heck, you can purchase one on the cheap if you are willing to wait and save. Don't waste your resources on unknown, crappy cameras. Stick w/ Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus or Fuji. |
