Yup, Newbie here, but I've been lurking for a while.
I'm looking for a pocketable digicam that takes decent stills, video at 640x480 at 30 FPS and operates on commonly available AA or AAA batteries and has removable memory. I'm planning a trip to the very rural Philippines where I'll be off AC power for a while. Decent low light capability would be a plus. :? Thanks in Advance! |

The Canon S2 IS takes 640x480 movies and takes AA batteries, but I doubt that regular alkaline AA batteries would last very long in it. I think that for the price, if you really want to take movies, get a video cam. Many of them can take stills.
You may also want to look into hybrid cameras. Here's one I read about recently: http://www.aiptek.com/ There are probably a lot of other cameras that meet your requirements. I'm not all the familiar with the market as a whole. |

Also look at the new Olympus SP-350. 640x480 QuickTime video @ 30fps with Anti-Shake and audio; uses AA bateries.
