If that's your only requirement, I'd check out the Canon PowerShot S3 IS . It's supposed to be an excellent camera. And yes, it has true optical image stabilization. Check it out: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/s3is.html

The above are all good suggestions if you want an ultra zoom.
If would rather have a pocket sized camera, the Canon SD700 IS might be the best choice. For a compact on a budget, look at any of the Panasonics, the FX01, the FX9, the LS2, and the LZ3. And don't miss the new Canon A710IS, for a very nice compact. |

Mingusmill-
I guess we really need a good (complete) clarification about what size camera would be the "ideal" size for you. MT |

I like a full size camera for my big hands but my wife wants a camera that will fit in her pocket-I know we can't have it both ways.

The Kodak P850 is my camera and it has excellent image stabilization. It also has 12x optical zoom, which is very nice!
It will not however fit in your pocket. It is good for big handed guys, but if you want something pocket sized, I would suggest the Canon SD 700 IS. (However, it is almost twice the price of the Kodak P850 and doesn't do nearly as much, thats the price you pay for the small size) |

It is a step up in price but a Pentax K100D dSLR with the two lens kit would supply the shake reduction feature and allow for future growth in the hobby. This is not a good choice for the casual snapshooter but if you are interested in photography as a hobby it might be for you.
