I don't know about the cameras you mentioned, but I would suggest you take a look at the Fuji F10 if you want a good, simple, portable, point & shoot camera. Fuji market it as a '24 hour camera', because it is designed to be better than most for taking pictures in low light (like indoors) without a flash.

I haven't actually used it, but the reviews are very good. The main criticism I've seen is that it doesn't offer much photographic control (there is a new model, the F11, coming out which has more control, but it's not going to be available in the states apparantly). A lot of people also say that while it doesn't offer the control 'serious' photographers want, it also doesn't produce the best results in full auto either - but I don't think that'd be a problem, using manual ISO should be quite simple.
