Looking to get something for my GF. I just need to get something good enough for her to take on trips, take pics at parties, etc etc. In other words she wouldn't care what she gets as long as its reasonably small for her purse. She currently has a 3.2 MP camera that is slow as hell and takes OK pics at best. My blackberry does a better job. So any current camera would be better. That said, I don't want to buy her "crap" so I am hoping somewhere in the 2-3 hundred dollar there is a good camera.

The Canon SD4000 would be a good choice. Its small, has a good fast lens, and has the color accent feature that girls tend to love to play with.

For another $30 you can get the S90, which has a faster lens (when zoomed) and most importantly, a much smaller sensor, which should produce better IQ.
Sorry, you specifically mentioned a $300 limit. Please disregard my suggestion.
