I am looking for advice on the best compact digital camera with the shortest (nearly zero) shutter lag and over 8 MP resolution in the $100 to $500 price range.
Any advice? |

The fastest ultra-compacts I have seen that have 8MP or more are the Casio Z850 and the Z1000.

Awesome. Thanks. So far I have read mixed reviews on the Casios, and will keep researching.
I guess a more specific descriptor would be point and shoot versus compact. I wouldprefer a dSLR (key point for me being nearly zero shutter lag, with or without flash), but my wife wants something she can carry conveniently and use (when I am not taking the photos) without worrying about how the photo is going to turn out. So...that being said, is there such a thing as a dSLR in a P & S's body:-)? Or even a P & S that thinks it's a dSLR? I don't mind spending up to $500 or so. Thanks for any additional advice. |

Most of the Casios are not very good, but the ones I said actually had very good reviews.

Since size is an issue, let us know if you would consider the Canon A-700IS which has received excellent reviews??

You might also want to take a look at the Fuji F-20, F-30, and S-6000. They do not have IS but they are very good as all around cameras capable of low light level shooting as well.
