Default Best continious shoot capability on a digital zoom under $500

I'm a newbie and am in need of replacing my Nikon Coolpix500. I am not a professional photographer but shoot pictures of moving horses jumping and so need to shoot many frames to get just the right frame and so far the Nikon Coolpix 500 has been the camera that I have found to best capability as well have great digital zoom and reasonable resolution for stills.

My requirements are:

1. Best of class continious shoot capability - is it greater than 8fps now?
2. Zoom capability at least comparable to the Coolpix (36 optical 4x digital)
3. Ability to shoot video
5. image quality as close as possible to what you can get with an SLR
6. prefer to spend under $300 (found the Coolpix 500 online at $229) but would go as high as $500 for a significant improvement over the P500)

My P500 just stopped working one day...when you turn it on the lens just goes in and out and then a message is displayed that says to turn the camera off, remove the lens cap and turn the camera back on...and when you do this the same thing happens Is it worth taking in for repair or should I just put the $$ towards a new model?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The Casio EX-ZR100 has a 12MP sensor, 12.5X optical zoom, Full HD Video, high speed video (up to 1000fps at lower resolutions), and high speed full resolution stills in bursts of up to 40 fps (up to a maximum of 30 total images.)

If high speed bursts is what you're looking for, there's none better.

THANK YOU! I just looked up the specs for the Casio and it looks to be perfect for my application and exceeds what I expected to find available. I am ordering one and will report back.
Thanks again!!
