Default Best performance in low light?

I take a lot of photographs of graffiti. The walls I photograph are typically 1-3 meters away and often in dark places (tunnels, etc.). I have to take the picture without the flash to avoid the reflection.

I'm looking for a pocket-size camera (certainly no bigger than the now-out-of-date sony cyber-shot DSC HX1) that performs well in low light without flash - doesn't blur easily / good stability. I'm often in the rough parts of town to take photos so a big flashy camera isn't very sensible! Battery life is important too. I am flexible on price. I don't need good video options.

I had been looking at the Panasonic Lumix TZ10 but read a review about lens flare and poor low light performance. I'd be very grateful for your thoughts on this or any other camera.

Thank you

You might want to investigate the new Sony HX5 camera. It is a fraction of the size of the HX1 camera. However, the HX5 has the same high ISO capabilities that are found on the HX1 camera.

I have attached an ISO 1600 photo taken with the HX5 camera without flash.

For low light, the best would be a canon S90, it has the biggest sensor in the point and shoot market. Thus yielding the best low light results for a point and shoot. The sony HV5X is a step behind the s90 in low light.

Here is a link to a no flash low light shot posted by another member. It is less noise then the HV5X

Super Frequent Flyer, no joke. Ex Patriot and loving it.
Canon Eos 60D, T1i/500D, Eos1, Eos 630, Olympus EPL-1, and a part time Pentax K-X shooter.
