After reading a lot online through many reviews i think i have narrowed it down to 2 cameras that i like. The canon a610 and the fuji f10. I mainly use my camera in auto mode and want a camera that can give me good quality sharp images both in and out of the house.
The main reason i will be getting this camera is to retire my old fuji 1.3 megapixel camera . After looking online it seems that the canon has nice sharp and clear images while the fuji are grainy anda dark a bit to me. CAn anyone make some suggestions and maybe sample pics of the same things ? THanks Pete |

Sounds like you've already made up your mind, so why should anyone bother?. OK, I'll try... Where online did you see these pictures? Were they of the same subject for both cameras? Since the A610 is relatively new, there are probably not too many people who own them. The only professional review I've seen was Steve's, and that didn't come out until November of this year. http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_...0_samples.html http://www.pbase.com/isabel95/a610 http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...light=fuji+f10 http://www.megapixel.net/reviews/fuji-f10/f10-samp.php http://www.digital-photography-resou...ry.php?cat=693 http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/fu.../gallery.shtml http://www.dpreview.com/gallery/?gal...lmf10_samples/ http://stevesforums.com/forums/view_...light=fuji+f10 the Hun |

To be very honest , i havnt made a purchase yet bc i dont believe what i am seeing and hearing about this fuji F10 camera. TO add to this every local store i have gone too has told me that canon cameras are basically top of the line. I have a old fuji finepix 1400Z and that camera produces excellent pictures till this day but lacks MP and has multiple read/write errors.
I am a point and shoot person, but dont mind trying new things and i am just no sure if the f10 is gonna yield nice pictures when i want a quick AUTO setting picture. What you think ? PEte |

Both Canon and Fuji make excellent cameras. I'm not sure why your local camera shops all say that Canon is 'top of the line', though. Maybe because they sell a Canon DSLR for $7,000.00 (body only), they think that all of the Canon models are superior? Do you think that a Canon $150 point and shoot digicam is going to rival another manufacturer's $3000 DSLR? Or that every Canon model will be superior to every other manufacturer's models in the same price range? I don't.
In your original post, you stated you wanted good quality sharp images both in and out of the house. Both of these cameras will give you that outside, but I think that inside (especially in available light settings), the Fuji will be superior, due to it's higher ISO capability (1600 vs. 400). As good as Canons are, most of them (at least the P&S) start to lose their picture quality (due to noise) by the time they reach ISO 400...which is probably why they don't attempt to offer a camera that goes any higher (for less than $1000). The first link below offers a comparison between the A620 (7 MP brother of the 610) and three other cams (including the F10). If you look at the Luminance and RGB noise graphs, you'll see that the F10 exhibits the least noise of the four cameras tested. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canona620/page7.asp http://stevesforums.com/forums/view_...mp;forum_id=87 http://carskick.blogspot.com/ Good luck with your choice. the Hun |

When I look at Steve's sample pictures for the two cameras, the F10 seems a little less noisy at low ISO, but it is not as sharp due to a less agressive in camera sharpener. However, it is easier to sharpen the F10 than reduce the noise of the Canon at higher ISO. I personally like the Fuji's softer feel, but in some cases the highly sharpened Canon can be preferable. I also find the reds on the canon to be a little too orangey for my tastes, but that is personal preference.
I personally don't find the Fuji's pictures grainy or dark at all. Hun already pointed you to some great sample sites including my gallery. Most of the pictures I take with the Fuji do not require much post processing if any, usually only adjusting the saturation for the nature of the pictutre. Most pictures are great from auto or manual mode and are great ditectly off of the camera. |

Then the F10 came out, and I was really impressed by the sample pictures that I saw online. So much so that I was willing to live without manual controls and an optical viewfinder. And since I've owned it, for the most part I've been very pleased with it. I don't find the images to be "grainy and dark" at all, quite the opposite in fact, when compared to other compact digicams. The A610's colours are probably a bit more saturated which might be more to you're liking. But I don't think it can touch the F10 when it comes to high ISO performance. As for taking good pictures in fully auto mode, yes,the F10 can do that. But I think you'll be even more satisfied if you learn to adjust certain settings when the situation calls for it. But to each their own. Both cameras have their strengths, and you just have to decide which of those strengths appeals to you more. Stephanie My Fujifilm FinePix F10 gallery |
