Camera safe for kayaking?

Hey all,

I am looking for a camera that can handle the occasional splash or dunk. We're not white-water paddlers, but there still is the issue of it getting splashed or dropped over the side (tho it will be tethered to the craft), or the paddler screws up and goes for an unintended swim.

We currently have a Lumix FZ35, but it's not really suitable.

Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

olympus tough 8010 it has the better water seals for a camera that is good to 10m under water.

The panasonic TS1 is a bit better image quality. But the waterproofing is not as intense as the olympus.

Shoturtle has provided two good suggestions. However, if you desire better image quality, consider the Panasonic TS-2. I have attached a link to a post of TS-2 photo samples. So you can see the actual TS-2 photos.

In the last week, while posting on various boards, I came across posts from two different kayakers who really liked the Sony TX-5 a lot, and praised its image quality. So there are three cameras that you can explore.

There are actually many camera's you can consider. In addition to the waterproof Oly's and other cameras mentioned, Canon makes the D10. Also, many canon P&S cameras (as well as other brands) have waterproof housings. The housings aren't cheap, but will allow you to use better quality cameras under these tough conditions.

I hadn't thought about some sort of case or pouch.

the pouches do not work well at all, I would avoid them. Cases are expensive. I scuba. And have looking into that route, and allot of time the case is 300 dollars. And it adds allot of size to your camera.

If you want a inexpensive option. intova makes a ic10 camera and they includes a very good case. for about 250 dollars. But the photos are averages. The case is good till 30 meters down.
