We are buying a camera for shoting outdoors mostly. Intent to take picturesatdog shows so camera must be able to take good pictures in motion,to have great zoom andpicture quality .Our budget is limited to about 400 $ , so we think of

KODAK ES Z 740
KODAK ES DX7590
FUJI FINEPIX E550
OLYMPUS C-770 UZ

If1 you think there is a better camera for this money , please advice us.

From what I can tell, you're looking to buy an ultrazoom because you can't sit too close to the dogs.

I'm not sure why you're looking at the E550, which has a nice wide angle, but not much telephoto reach. The current Fuji offering in your price range would be the S5100, which apparently has a $50 rebate on it right now.

Personally, I'm partial to image stabilization with an ultrazoom camera.

I'd recommend you also look at the Konica/Minolta Dimage Z3/5, Canon S1 IS, and especially the Panasonic FZ series (FZ3/4/5/15/20). In particular, the FZ15 seems to fit the bill very well.

I've got the 6490 which is the earlier version of the 7590 and have no complaints so far, just alot of fun and easy to use. I use the zoom and a TCON-17 lens to really get out there. Image stabilization can be a help, but since mine doesn't have it I've had to learn to shoot without. Here are some of my feeble efforts so far. This is a Saturn 5 rocket shot from about 4-5 miles in distance. Please forgive the smog and haze, as there is just so much a polarizing filter can do!

Here is my daughter's first attempt at useing the DX6490. Taken inside and no flash. Cropped and reduced for viewing on the web.

The DX7590 has more features, such as additional scene modes and a faster focus than the 6490 I have, and is a very good camera. All Digital cameras no matter what brand have their own quirks. They will for the most part deliver a good quality photo but always remember it is the photographer that makes the difference. And as a side light to all of this the DX6490 can be found heavily discounted on line and in most Wal-marts these days. Mine went for $290 dollars.

Thanks for advice. We didn`t buy camera yet, but we looked at prices and available cameras on our market and narrowed our choise

FUJI S5500
KODAK Z740
PANASONIC FZ5
OLYMPUS C770UZ

Our favorites are FUJI, which is far the cheapest and KODAK Z740, which seems like great "bang for the buck".
We were impressed by PANASONIC FZ5 image , but we don`t know is it better from KODAK and is it worth about 50$ more.

Please advice us, it is very important. Again thanks in advance.

Go for the Panasonic FZ-5 as the Image Stabiliser will be useful in low light situations without a tripod.
