I want to ask for a camera for christmas but I don't know what kind.
Im kinda leaning towards a canon.(i like the color accent feature) But i need help on which one? (but any other brands that you think is better, please let me know) ![]() I would also like it to be HD. I don't need a super fancy dancy expensive camera, but I don't want a cheepo one either. Any suggestions, would be helpful :] I would use it for fun, taking pictures with my friends, myspace & facebook and photography, I like to edit pictures and stuff like that. Thanks in advance! |

Hi Valerie,
Based on your specifications outlined as well as your preference for the Canon brand. I would take a look at the SD980 IS, looks to be a fun camera with touchscreen, a good 5x zoom starting at a wide 24mm and offers 720p HD video. Another option may be the Panasonic ZR1. |

Valerie-
Welcome to the Forum. We're please that you dropped by. To properly guide you in through this selection process, we also need to ask a few questions. (1) What is your budget for this Christmas camera? I am guessing perhaps $200 to $300. (2) Do you want both manual and automatic controls on your camera, or do you use automation exclusively? I am guessing fully automatic. (3) How much zoom capability to you desire on your new camera? Zoom is the capability to bring the image close or to enlarge in using the lens. Typical zooms are 3X, 4X, 5X, 10X etc (4) What percentage of your photos will be taken outdoors? (5) What percentage of your photos will be taken indoors using your new camera's built-in flash unit? (6) Will you be taking many low light level photos without flash? (7) Will you be taking any outdoor sports photos? (8) Will you be taking an indoor sports photos? (9) Will you be making prints larger that 5" X 7" (10) Is camera size a priority for you. Common sizes are Ultra compact (the kind that can go into a jeans pocket), compact, super zoom, or large super zoom. (11) Are there any special features that you desire? Valerie, you mentioned HD video. (12) Are there any camera brands you love? (13) Are there any camera brands you really dislike? (14) Are there any cameras you have already looked at? With the answers to those questions we can properly advise you on several possible cameras that might work very well for you. We how you have enjoyed a wonderful weekend. Sarah Joyce |

another camera worth mentioning is the Samsung TL225 which offers an lcd sceen both on the front and the back. this would allow you to shoot pictures of yourself and friends without guessing on the composition, which could be handy for your social networking profile and other pics.
it offers hd video and will zoom while recording, though the audio goes silent during this zoom. (not sure if this is the same on the panasonic) http://www.steves-digicams.com/camer...25-review.html |
