Hi all,

I am looking to get a new camera as I currently have a pretty standard sony 5mp point and shoot.

I used to do photograohy to A level standard about 10 years ago and will soon be moving into a new house which has room for setting up a small portrait studio.

My question is what camera will allow me to get started in the digital world of SLR's but will be suitable for me to 'grow' into and will produce proffesionalquality images.

The camera will also be used for a three month trip to the US next year.

I have around £700 to spend or whats that about $1100.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated folks, im off to start having a read through some of the many reviews on here.

Your budget requires a low end dSLR, because you will have to have enough funds for camera, lenses, and a studio setup. The cameras in that group would be, listed in alphabetical sequence with no regard to preference, the Canon 350D/XT, the KM 5D, the Nikon D-50, the Olympus E-300 or E-500, the Pentax 1st DS or DL, and the like.

Have you decided on what support equipment your will requirte: lights, soft boxes, flashes, reflectors, and the like?Have you made a decision on lenses? Those will all play into the cumulative cost.

Thanks, I have considered that and initially I plan to get the camera and A lense for the holiday then build up and learn and add equipment over a number of months.

The initial budget is for camera and first lens.

Based upon your reply, my suggestion would be the KM 5D or the Pentax 1st DS.
