The Canon DC-20 (Around $700) has a 2.2 megapixel CCD.

Approx 1.23 million effective pixels for video in4:3 and 1.5 million for 16:9
This seems to blow away everycamera in it's price range, and even some above.

It has optical stabilization instead of digital, and I'm fairly sure you can keep reusing dvd-rw's on it without a loss in quality, unlike mini dv tapes.

On top of all this, it has a RBG filter that separates light into its red, green and blue components for better picture clarity.

Unless anyone has any contrary advice, this is the camera I am going for
