Thinking of buying a Canon A530 for a gift. Couple of questions:
  1. Reliable, sturdily built?[/*]
  2. Picture quality- any good? clarity, sharpness, colour?[/*]
  3. Speed in focusing or OK?[/*]
  4. Speed in flash-slow or OK?[/*]
  5. Getting a camera for my 17 yr. old son, who is technologically current, not a lot of experience with cameras, but learns real fast. Good camera for a young man who will take lots of people shots?

Have you checked out any reviews? They should answer your questions. It's a good camera, but whether it is worth buying depends on the price.

Yes , first thing I did and I've checked out Pop Photo, Digital Photo and quite a few others. Reason I posted here was to get actual , informed users, for a balance to all I've read. First hand anecdotal is often times better.

I've had medium format and 35 mm since '68 and actual use gives me a better idea of pros and cons, also get to ask follow up questions which I can't do with the printed word.

But as it happens I talked to a fellow at the Best Buy (customer) who actually owned one and gave me the answers I need.

I bought one on his experience , demonstration with the demo model and advice.
