Hi all,
I am thinking of buying a digicam with >7MP. I am an amateur photographer and don't want to buy a really high-end piece. After some browsing, I had kind of decided on the 720 IS when somebody suggested that I go instead for the A640 or the A630. He said that the sensor size in either of the two is bigger than that in the 720 IS. Is the sensor size really that big a deal?
I see that the 640/630 don't have IS which the 720 has. Also, the 720 IS has more zoom than 640/630.
So, I am still not clear which one to pick.
Your inputs are most appreciated.

Yes, it's the sensor size that ultimately matters. Both, the A720 and the A630, have 8 MP but the A630 clearly yields better image quality, especially if you use the raw mode with the CHDK hack. The A630 also has a nice flip out display. On the other hand the A720 has a larger zoom range and most importantly a good image stabiliser. The A720 is smaller, because it uses only 2 AA cells. On the other hand, because of 4 AA cells, the flash cycle time of the A630 is significantly shorter and the A630 flash is also more powerful than the A720 flash.

If you were considering the A640 (10 MP/ 4x zoom), then perhaps you should consider the A650 IS (12 MP/ 6x zoom). The 650 is selling for less than or equal tothe 640 at the present time.
