Looking for a low-cost beginner camera for my teen daughter. Have it narrowed to these two choices - Canon A430 & Nikon Coolpix 4600. Want good quality 4x6 photos. Must work with a Mac computer. Anyone have any advice, pros/cons, thoughts on these two cameras? Or other good cameras for around $125-$175? Thank you!

I bought my 13 year old niece the Cannon A520 last year and she loved it. What I like about it is that it has Shutter and Aperture priority that a lot of entry level cameras lack. I figured it gives her more chance to be creative with those feature.

From what I have seen, the 4600 is a very poor performer in low light, ok otherwise.

Thank you. I have a Canon A95 and like it very much (except the slow shutter speed). That was my first instinct. I'll check the reviews.

If it helps, I have a Canon A620 and would recommend it.

Nikon Coolpix 4600 is lacking a lot of features, namely the sound w/ the movie mode. It's smaller, but it gives up a lot of important things to acheive that. When in doubt, go w/ canon!!!
