i can't decide between the a610 and the z120.
on the one hand, the canon is really big, compared to most. on the other hand, the casio has no flip screen. on the other hand, i'm not likely to use the flip screen for much, except playing with it. on the other hand, the a610 has about thirty billion emphatically positive customer reviews online, and not so much for the z120. on the other hand, it looks like the z120 has really good battery life -- steve said he got 150 shots on two NiMH AA's, which is phenomenal -- right? and then there's that "e 18" thing please help me here... i'm still looking for a camera that: - runs on AAs - has good "auto" modes, without too much tinkering for a good shot - is something along the lines of "small" - docks as a USB drive (not needing software) - takes good movies - is reliable thanks folks y |

I hate to be a bearer of bad news but neither of your camera choices will work very well at all. You would be much better off to take a look at the Fuji F-10 which has a much higher ISO capability.

that's not bad news. it seems the camera you recommended is very, very fast (according to steve) which is great for me!
but i'd much prefer something with a real-life viewfinder, as i will also be using this outside when it's sunny any other ideas? |

My assumption, based on your original post was that these dances would take place indoors, under less than ideal lighting conditions. If these dances are outside, that makes the photo taking venue a whole different environment. If these photos will be taken outside, where daylight lighting would be available, then either the Casio Z-120 or the Canon A-610 would be fine. IMHO the Canon A-610 would be a bit better for that application.

oh, well, yes, most dances are indoors and dark.
but i'll be using the camera for other things as well, since it will be my only camera. thus it should ideally work for as many applications as possible. thanks for your help |

bluesdance-
If you truly want to work effeciently in BOTH well lighted and dark environments, thenyour choice must favor a high ISO capable camera such as the Fuji F-10. Do not be confused by the V-10, it uses an entirely different imager and does not do as well at high ISO settings, exhibitingaome noise at high ISO settings. The Fuji F-10 can use the high ISO settings and produce a markedly better image due to its unique imager.
