Have a look at the Canon forum on dpreview.com as there is a debate about these cameras. Both have plus points but i went with the A540 and am happy with it

A700 and A620/A610 are almost the same bulkiness with A700 a little slimmer. While A620/A610 has swivel LCD, much more controls for taking your photos and better image quality, I will suggest A620/A610 ifyou can live with the very tiny difference in bulkiness.
Mind you, all Canon digicams can do reasonably well photos in full auto mode, but one important thing missing on models like A700 (and IXUS, etc)is the flash powercontrol which can be a big problem. |

Gotta correct you but the A700 as well as the A540 (unsure about the others) both have control over the power of the flash. So please list the "much more controls" the A610/20 have as i am pretty sure you are mistaken there yet again A620 has a faster lens, mp, iso 50 - 400 against iso 80 - 800, slower continuous shooting speed, swivel viewfinder, uses 4 x AA batts which adds to the weight I myself still chose the A540. It does has a larger screen though with less pixels and a bit of a slow flash charge time which is no big prob for me. The new sensor allows 800 iso and the images are more responsive to noise software I prefer the smaller size and lighter weight of the camera |

I can't really help you with the decision as I don't own the 620. It depends of course on what your needs are. I just bought the A700 and am very happy with it. It's nice and small and takes great pictures. I love the large zoom and the fact that you can control just about any setting. Only negative I would say is that the dynamic range isn't that great, as some have mentioned, and highlights do wash out a little bit. Not sure if that's the same with the A620. Overall I'm very happy with the camera, no regrets.

The 620 has the bigger sensor - this is really important for best images

Go to A700, cause it has 6x zoom, instead of 4x ones of A610 and A620. The rest is almost the same (I own a A610).

Sorry to disagre, but according to reviews I've read, the 700 has a bigger sensor. This is why they increased the ISO to 800.

The new sensor has less noise and also the noise in the iso 800 pics cleans up far much better and makes the image a bit more useable |
