Is the Canon G9 worth the $500 price? We have a old Canon 35mm Rebel with two lenses, but we find that it is to big and bulky to take with us alot of times. We have a 2.5 year old and a dog. We would like a camara with a lot of the features of a DSLR but a small size.

Kelly-

If you accept at the outset a couple of things, the search becomes a good deal easier.

(1) A point and shoot camera does not have the low light level performance of a DSLR camera, with few exceptions.

(2) There will be no interchangeable lens. Accessory Lenses perhaps, but they will not be truly interchangeable.

For folks who are looking for a new camera, the size of the camera and the necessory accessory items is usually an important priority. Have you handled the G-7 to get some idea of how big the Canon G-9 will probably be when it is released? How large a camera would be ideal for you?

If you have not made RAW format, or an adjustable LCD screen a priority, then it might also be wise to take a look at the Canon A-650IS because its specifications will be very similiar to the G-9

Please tell us a bit more about the kind of photos that you take. Is the 6X optical zoom found on both the new G-9 and the A-650IS sufficient for you? If you are looking for more zoom capability, then take a look at the Canon S-5IS.

If a low light level shooting capability, using no flash, is important to you, then you should look at the cameras being offered by Fuji, such as the F-32, F-40, F-50,and S-6000.

I apologize for asking so many questions. However, those questions will move our discussion forward a good deal faster. Thanks for your help.
