i read that neither of them use raw. which would you go for if money wasn't an issue and you wanted to stick to a canon, that isn't DSLR?

Correct, neither of them can use the RAW format. If you like the size, the wide angle lens, and the 8mp, then go for it. However, in all fairness, I have to mention that there is an alternative, the Fuji E-900 at 9mp that also does a very good job and has a 31mm wide angle lens in a slightly different form factor, and a lot of folks like it a lot. So it is really between the Fuji E-900 and the Canon S-80. The choice is yours.
