The Canon can use any EOS lenses, but not the earlier manual Canon lenses. Pentax can use any Pentax lens ever made,
Although this is true, Canon have made over 100 million EF (EOS) lenses since 1987, and Pentax have not made close to that many in their whole history. In my experience 2nd-hand shops have lots of Canon and Nikon lenses for sale, and hardly any Pentax. YMMV.
KEH.com lists 19 pages of Canon autofocus (EF and EF-S) and compatible third party lenses. That's at least 181 lenses.

They also list 11 pages of Pentax autofocus and compatible third party lenses, and 14 pages of Pentax manual focus and compatible third party lenses which fit Pentax autofocus dSLRs. That's at least 232 lenses.

Canon's biggest advantage is their extensive range of lenses, and that you would be buying into a system with a great deal of scope for future growth and upgrades.
This is true.
