I have been doing so much research on the Canon S2 IS and the Sony DSC H1. But, when I went looking for it in the stores, I was told that the store is discontinuing it. The stores were Ritz Camera and Bestbuy? So, now I am not so sure that I want to buy the Canon? Maybe they are coming out with a newer version? Maybe, I should hold off for a couple of months? I don't know! I like taking pictures of scenery and animals in addition to all purpose use. Any feedback on which camera would be better?

No, I do not believe that the Canon S-2 IS has been discontinued at all. It is one of the most successful digital cameras that Canon has ever produced. They would be bonkers to shut it down.

Please keep in mind that Sony has had one heck of a problem lately (in the last 4 months!) with their quality control. I would be more than a little hesitant to buy a Sony braded digital camera right now.

I was told by a BB employee last week that they weren't offering the Canon in the store.

Believe me, both the Canon S-2 and the Sony H-1 are readily available. I was in my local Staples store just yesterday and they were displaying BOTH cameras. I inquired about their inventory and whether there was any plan to discontinue either camera.

I was told they had at least a dozen of each camera in stock and there was no news about discontinuing either camera. Both cameras were selling well.

Well, I ordered the Canon S2 IS from Sam's Club. It is scheduled for delivery, today. I purchased from Sam's club due to the return policy. I was burnt with my Panasonic that I purchased from Ritz Camera and won't buy Panasonic products ever again!

I think you have found the solution that will work best for you. The Canon S-2 is an excellent camera, enjoy!
