For general photagraphy use, which of the abovesubject cameras would be best for picture clarity and overall durability. Would the less expensive SD500 be a better choice? Any advise will be appreciated:?

The SD400 &500 had a lot of LCD cracking reported. It is evidently fixed in the SD550, so I would think it the better choice.
The SD550 has the strongest flash I know of in a small camera. The Nikon 7900 is slower than the Canon in full autofocus shutter lag and much slower in cycle times. I doubt you would see a lot of difference in the photo quality, but the Canon is capable of higher resolution. I would prefer the SD550 just for the speed of use advantages. |

I agree with Slipe-
The Canon SD-550 is clearly the better camera. It has the better flash, clarity, size and exposure. MT |
