Default Comparing new to old cameras

More than 8 years ago I bought an Olympus C-3000Z 3.3mp camera for some $500. It recently died and I'm looking for a replacement.

Anyone have any idea as to how today's entry level ($100 - $200) cameras compare to my old Olympus?

Digital cameras have improved a lot in the last 8 years. The very highly rated Canon A-590 is still available with very similar features to your Olympus C-3000. It is selling for around $125.00 and has 8mp, IS (image stabilization), 4X optical zoom, and includes full manual and automatic controls. Oh yes, it is also a bit smaller in physical size as well.
