I am considering purchasing a refurb Nikon d50 but am starting to get concerned about the sheer volume of these units out there. Cameta auctions seems to have 10-20 a day on ebay, and B&H carries them full time. I don't see auctions or ads for refurb Canon, Olympus, Pentax, or KM. Any ideas why there are so many refurb Nikons out there? Especially d50's? This is going to be a major purchase for me and my hubby is definitely not going to allow me to want a new camera for many years so whatever I get is going to have to last.
Any thoughts or input on this would be greatly appreciated. Peggy:? |

I do not trust a "refurb" camera.
I suspect these are defective returns that may or may not have the defect fixed. I would buy new instead even if you have to get less of a camera. The D50 was just releases not that many months ago. Why would someone return it if not defective? Just my opinion. If it was not a digital camera that would be a different story as film cameras were not as complex. |

Peggy,
I got a refurb D50, 18-55, and 55-200 from Cameta for $620. The 55-200 was new the body and 18-55 Nikon refurb. The only thing that differentiated them was the packaging. Everything looks and works as new. Take a look at the D50 forum and you'll see MANY people very happy with their refurbs. I wouldn't hesitate to go for a factory refurb. Happy hunting. Curt |
