Our college is moving to digital images for class presentations, etc. My department does most of the copy stand work for this, and we want to buy a good quality digital SLR camera.
The images that we copy vary greatly in size, and color rendition is critical. We also occasionally use the camera "free-hand" for items in our Special Collections which can not be moved. I am currently looking at either the Canon EOS 5D, or the Nikon D200. Any thoughts? Other suggestions? Would a zoom lens be practical for the stand in order to give us the flexibility for other projects? All input is appreciated. Thanks. Rita M. |

The D200 should be more than good enough, the type of lens you use is probably more important. Zoom will give you more flexibility, but a lens with Macro feature might be more important, depending on your subject. Keep the minimum focusing distance of the lens in mind. Some zooms have really bad (minimum 5 ft) that probably won't work for you.
