Im really excited about buying a new DSLR camera...i had a look at the Canon Rebel XT and now came the XTi and i was confused between the XT and the D50 from Nikon...so any advice on which one is better? and pros n cons about DSLR in general.

A couple of general pros and cons:

Pros: better picture quality, more versitility.

Cons: Extra weight, equipment, complexity (though all of the so-called budget dSLRs have simple modes that those who know nothing about cameras can use). In the long run, more expensive.
