Is there ANY digicam in the $250 price range, with 6 or more mp, and AA battery usage that DOESN'T have a long lag time between flash pictures??

I recently traded in my Nikon Coolpix 5600 for just that reason and was all set to purchase the Canon Powershot A540 -- only to hear that the lag time can be as long as 12 seconds!

Would love to hear feedback.

I hate sound like a broken record, but, likeI said on the other thread of your's, the A 610/620 is very quick. Thats why I bought mine.

If you read the reviews for cameras you are considering, you'll find typical flash recycle time ineach review's Conclusion Section (last page before the sample imagesin each camera's review here).

Note that ISO speed and distance to subjectwill cause flash recycle time to vary. That's because the closer you are to a subject, the shorter the flash burst can be for proper exposure (so, the recycle time is faster). Some models also have more flash range compared to others.

ISO speed also impacts it (because a shorter flash burst can be used at higher ISO speeds). Lens brightness also impacts it, and with the majority of smaller models, lenses lose a *lot* of light as you zoom in more (so a longer flash burst is needed to illuminate a subject if you are zooming in much).

Battery type also influences it. As a general rule, models using smaller batteries (or 2 AA batteries versus 4 AA batteries) are going to take longer to recycle when everything else is equal between models (and it rarely is).
