Is the $500 difference between the two worth it for someone who does outdoor/bird photography and uploads images to the web. No printing of any prints. Is the price difference worth it, I can buy alot ofthingsfor $500. Also will the 10 x vs 10.7 make a noticeable difference on the long end of the zoom. Thanks for any input.

The price difference is $250, at least in the US.
Both cameras are 300 mm on the long end, and if you're going to the web, the extra magapixels aren't going to help, plus I think you'll appreciate the slightly lower noise of the S5200. |

First of all zoom number doesn't mean anything concrete, it's still 10x zoom nevertheless is focal length range 10-100mm or 100-1000mm.
What matters are focal lengths. General photography, lanscapes and sceneries benefit greatly from 28mm real wide angle while for birds that 400mm tele is best thing. It's just that all long tele ultra-zooms (except IS lacking Samsung 815) lack real wide angle. |

Actually, both cameras are not 300mm at the tele end.
The S5200 is 10x 38-380mm The S9000 is 10.7x 28-300mm So the S5200 will have more zoom, the S9000 will have more wide angle. This is personal prefrence. The S9000 has more features in terms of dual media slot, flash sync, etc, but if you don't need the wide angle, MP or it's other features, the S5200 will be a better use of money for you. |

mmm, snow. Don't see that very often down here. It has been very rainy and chilly the past few days, but that's about it.
No problem, David. Easy mistake. |
