I think most of the xD cards are made by the same company, Samsung. I have both Olympus and Fuji xD cards, and they both say Samsung on them. I haven't seen any difference in performance between them. There are also different 'flavor' xD cards, such as 'regular' xD, 'M' series xD, and 'H' series xD. I have 'regular' xD cards. I can't say which is better, if any. The 'H' series was supposed to be faster, but I've heard that is not necessarily true in all cameras.
Regarding batteries, I use Nexcell 2400's and Sanyo 2500's. They are both excellent batteries. Powerex and Energizer are also highly rated. Get yourself a decent 'smart' charger (one which knows when to shut itself off when charging is comlete, rather than one which uses a timer). the Hun |

I have several Hubgiant CHG2000PDSC's, which are identical to the Lightning Pack 4000N, available from:
http://www.ripvan100.com/products_recharger.htm They are fast and don't overheat the batteries. They automatically switch over to trickle charge when charging is complete, and have a discharge function, should the batteries develop a memory. I also have a Sanyo NC-MQH01U, which isn't bad either. I bought it with 6 Sanyo 2500 AA's and 2 Sanyo 900 AAA's in Costco for less than $25. The Maha MH-C204W and the La Crosse BC-900 charger are highly rated, although a bit more expensive. the Hun |

Get the regular xD cards before they run out. The M card is much slower than the regular xD cards, the H cards offers no additional speed improvement over the regular xD cards, at least not on the S5200.

I purchased a Lightning Pack 4000N off the 'net right about the time I bought my 5200. Also got a deal on an 8 pack of Energizer 2500 mah batteries at like loews or home depot. I got 187 pictures off the batteries that came with my 5200, abnout 1/3 of them flash. That was pretty impressive. The 4000N charger does a good job, and the batteries get just warm, no where near hot. I ran a set of older 1500 mah through it I thought had bought the farm, but after a couple cycles in the 4000N they seem to be working fine again.
I have Fuji, Olympus, San Disk and Kodak xd cards for my 5200. I can not tell any difference in the brands. They are all standard xd cards. |

fofa,
The 187 pictures you took with the batteries...you're referring to the alkaline batteries that came with the camera, correct? How many exposures do you get with the Energizer 2500's? the Hun |
