Hi all,
I am leaving with my girlfriend for a round the world trip in a month. We currently have one camera (Olympus C-750 Ultra Zoom) and were thinking about getting another camera so we can both have one in our possession at all times (just in case we are not together and want to take a photo etc). I have been looking at the Olympus models purely because I have a few xD cards and don't want to fork out more $$ on new memory cards. I've read a tonne of reviews on the different cameras, but really don't know which to choose. I was thinking of something reasonably compact with a 3x zoom. My budget is around $250-$300 Australian dollars. Can anyone suggest any cameras that will suit my needs (doesn't have to be Olympus)? Thank you in advance for your help. |
Take a look at the Fuji E-900, it uses XD chip and is a nice traveler's camera.

Might as well pick up another Olympus 750 on Ebay.
That way, you can share memory, etc. Also, you have a "backup" for your own 750! Happy travels sans travails, Hawko! :D |
Thanks for the help guys.
Had a quick look at the Fuji E-900 and I thikn it is well beyond my budget. |
how about the f-10 from fuji.. compact.. great in low light (iso to 1600).. and uses the xD cards as well.. and cheaper than the e-900..

That camera is $480 Australian dollars or thereabouts. Still a bit much. I guess i won't be able to get anything spectacular for my price budget, just looking for good value though. |
hmm.. finding something new at half the price of a f-10 may be difficult..
have you checked out the used market.. maybe a a lightly used c-5050 or 5060 could be had at a reasonable cost, and they are still very nice cameras... |

i have no personal experience with this camera, but the review looks positive! |
An around the world trip to me means a once in a lifetime experience. I would surely want to record it with the very best equipment I could reasonably obtain. These are one time only photos.
Yes, you can indeed cut corners. Perhaps that is what you want to do. Then justpurchase a Kodak C-300 or something like that. It will produce reasonable, but not great photos. A step up you say? Well then look at the Kodak V-550 or the V-530. Let us know how the search is going. MT |
