Good digital camera

hi, i'm quite new to photography but i'd like to some advice if possible. i'd like to start with a good digital camera but i really wouldn't know where to start looking. i have looked at a few cameras, the one that stood out best to me was the Fuji F200exr but i couldn't find it anywhere. Any advice on good digital cameras at roughly $300 would be great

thanks

The Panasonic TZ10/ZS7 would would be an ideal starter camera, particularly for learning manual control over photos. (P,A,S modes). The menu system is pretty straight forward and the IQ (Imagae Quality) is fantastic, even when left in Ai mode. The previous TZ7/ZS3 would definitely be worth looking at also as it appears to be highly regarded on these forums. :)

it would be helpful to know the conditions you shoot in most and the features you desire most.

such as, do you shoot mainly indoors versus outdoors, do you need a long zoom, how important is video, etc.

there is no single camera that can do everything, thus its best to pick the camera that best suits the individuals needs.

thanks for the help, i'd probably be shooting mostly outdoors and would like a large zoom if possible, i have no desire for video atall.

i would also be keen to take macro photos
