Thanks for this great forum. I need to buy a camera for my mother this week and am now going in circles.

Looking for:
straight forward/simple
good low light/indoor!
quick flash recycle!
$200-250
moderate size (compact not necessarily a plus)

The camera is primarily to take pictures of the grandkids. I was leaning to the Sony cybershot DSC-H20 but it takes ten seconds to recycle the flash! Any other suggestions? I like everything about the sony except the flash and memory stick. Also looked at the canon 780 but a little small and no blink function. Thanks

Rather than the 10X optical zoom and bulkiness of the Sony H-20, why not take a look at the Sony W-350, it has lots of features, a good built in flash, and costs $(US)199.00.

Yep, I finally tracked down one of the first owners of the W-350 today (01/28), and Mark reported the flash recycle time to be about 5 seconds. Power for the flash and the camera comes from a Sony Category N battery which is an above average Lithion-Ion Proprietary battery.

I came across another low price camera that might work for Mom. The Samsung SL-420. Steve gave it a good review.
